Around the Corner

The Around the Corner block is a versatile and easy-to-make patchwork pattern that adds a touch of style to your quilt or sewing project. In this Round the Corner block tutorial, we’ll provide you with step-by-step instructions for creating your own block.

Necessary materials:

Cotton fabrics in assorted colors and patterns
rotary cutter
cutting ruler
Cutting base
Sewing thread
Sewing machine or needle and hand thread
Iron

Step 1: Choose Fabrics
Choose cotton fabrics in different colors and patterns for your Around the Corner block. Make sure the fabrics complement each other and create a nice contrast.

Step 2: Cut the Fabrics
Use the rotary cutter, cutting ruler and cutting mat to cut fabrics into 4.5 inch squares. You will need 4 squares in total.

Step 3: Create the Handles
To create the handles for the Around the Corner block, cut a 2.5-inch by 9-inch strip of fabric. Fold the strip in half right side in and sew the long edges together. Turn the strap to the right side and press with an iron.

Step 4: Sew the Block Pieces
Place two fabric squares on top of each other, right sides together, and sew along one side, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat this process with the other two fabric squares.

Step 5: Add the Handles
Position a handle on top of one of the sewn squares and sew it into place at each end, making sure the handle is facing the center of the square. Repeat this process with the second sewn square.

Step 6: Join the Squares
Place one of the squares with handles on top of the other square, right sides together, and sew along opposite sides that do not have handles, using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat this process with the other pair of squares.

Step 7: Cut and Turn
Cut the sewn squares diagonally, cutting from the bottom left edge to the top right edge. Then turn the block pieces right side out and press the seams open.

Step 8: Finish the Block
Bring the two halves of the block together, lining up the cut ends, and sew them together using a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Press the seams open and, if necessary, trim the edges to make the block perfectly square.

Conclusion:
Creating the Round the Corner block is a fun and easy way to add interest!
