Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prepare the Fabric
Press all fabrics thoroughly and square the edges before cutting.
2. Cut the Strips
Cut the following strips across the width of the fabric (WOF):
-
Red: four strips, 2.5″ × WOF
-
Green: four strips, 2.5″ × WOF
-
Gold/Neutral: four strips, 2.5″ × WOF
3. Sew the Strip Sets
Sew the strips together in this order:
Red – Gold – Green – Gold
Press seams in one direction.
Make four identical strip sets.
4. Cut Diamond Segments
Place the strip set at a 45° angle using a quilting ruler.
Cut 2.5-inch diamond segments along the entire strip set.
Repeat until all strip sets are cut into diamonds.
5. Assemble the Lone Star Points
Arrange the diamond segments so the colors flow in a repeating pattern.
Sew diamonds together into rows of eight to form each star point.
Create eight identical points.
6. Join the Star Points
Sew the points together in pairs, aligning seams carefully.
Continue joining pairs until the entire Lone Star shape is complete.
Leave one seam open to form the tree-skirt opening.
7. Add Background Panels
Cut background triangles and edge panels to fill the outer gaps around the star.
Sew them in place to complete the round shape of the skirt.
8. Layer and Quilt
Assemble the quilt layers:
backing → batting → quilt top.
Pin or baste them together.
Quilt using straight lines, echo quilting, or your preferred style.
9. Bind the Edges
Cut 2.5″ binding strips, fold them in half lengthwise, and press.
Sew the binding around the circle and along the skirt opening.
Optional: Add ties or Velcro for closure.
