The most famous crochet pattern for decades, the granny square, are squares that together have a variety of applications. The most traditional ones are square-shaped, however there are also hexagons, circles and other polygonal shapes.

You can combine several different colors, models or motifs. Grandma’s little square doesn’t have an exact measurement, but always follows the same crochet technique: you start from the core, increasing the chains until you create rows of sections that complete the square. The graphic can have infinite variations, polygonal shapes such as hexagons and circles also enter this art, creating increasingly bold motifs.

Its origin is not clear, but we do know that in the United States, after the crash of the American Stock Exchange in 1929, at the time of the Economic Depression, the matriarchs, in a time of great financial difficulty, using their creativity, began to use the threads they had, to weave blankets and clothes to wear and protect their families from the cold.
