Necessary materials:

Cotton fabrics for quilt top and lining
Batting fabric for the middle of the quilt
Sewing machine
Sewing thread
Ruler
Scissors or rotary cutter
cutting board
Iron

Step 1: Choose your fabrics

The first step in making a log cabin quilt is choosing your fabrics. The pattern is usually made with cotton fabrics, but you can use any type of fabric you like. Be sure to choose fabrics that contrast with each other so that the log cabin pattern is clearly visible.

Step 2: Cut the fabrics into strips

To start assembling the log cabin blocks, cut your fabrics into strips. The strips should be about an inch wide and can be of varying lengths, as long as they are longer than the width you want your finished block to be.

Step 3: Sew the strips together

With the strips cut, begin assembling the log cabin block by sewing the strips together. Start with a dark strip, then add a light strip next to it. Then add another dark strip, another light strip, and so on, until you have a strip long enough to cut into block-sized sections.

Repeat this process until you’ve sewn several strips together long enough to cut the blocks. You can use a different color combination for each block or create a repeating pattern.

Step 4: Cut the blocks

After sewing the strips together, it’s time to cut the blocks for the top of the quilt. Use a ruler and rotary cutter to cut the sewn strip into desired block-sized sections. Log cabin blocks are typically square, about 30 cm wide.

Step 5: Assemble the quilt

With the blocks cut, it’s time to assemble the quilt. Use whichever method you prefer to arrange the blocks in an order that creates an interesting visual effect. You can use a specific pattern or simply arrange the blocks randomly. When you are satisfied with the arrangement, sew the blocks together to create the top.
